It is the responsibility of the person that was bitten by an animal to report the bite to a physician, emergency room or Johnson County Community Health Services immediately. If the individual who was bitten is a minor, a parent or guardian must make the contact.
Information needed includes:
- Name and address of the animal owner
- Date, time, and location of incident
- Location on the body where person was bitten
- General description of the animal
Once it is reported, case management will be contacted to research if the animal is vaccinated or infected with the rabies virus. Rabies virus in humans can be fatal without early diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, prompt reporting is necessary!
