Johnson County WIC encourages all mothers to breastfeed, if possible. We want to encourage and support you in your efforts! Did you know that more than 75% of mothers breastfeed their new babies for even a short amount of time?

Breastmilk is best for almost all infants. Not only is breastmilk nutritionally superior, breastfeeding also provides many other physical and emotional advantages to the baby. In addition, breastfeeding provides numerous other benefits to the mother and other family members.

An Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) can be found at our WIC office. Our IBCLCs are breastfeeding experts that are here to answer your questions, help you with any breastfeeding challenges and support you in your decision to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding CLASSES are offered on the 4th Wednesday of January, April, July and October. Check out our CALENDAR to see when the next class is, then call us to enroll!

BREAST PUMPS are provided to WIC participants for a variety of reasons:

  • Manual pumps are provided free of charge when a mother is having temporary problems (e.g. engorgement or a mother temporarily on medication contraindicated for breastfeeding).
  • Medela Lactina Double Pump can be loaned to a mother with a $15.00 refundable deposit. The following criteria are required: premature or hospitalized infant or mother, infant with feeding or latching problems, mother of twins or triplets, mother returning to school or work and a low milk supply.
